JARUCO
Apart from Jaruco, San Antonio de Río Blanco, Caraballo and Bainoa compose this city.
Parque Escaleras de Jaruco
The Parque Escaleras de Jaruco, set back from the northern coastline, offers a wonderful ride to sample some typical farmland views. The park, a protected area 6km west from Jaruco town, features forests, caves and strangely shaped limestone cliffs similar to the mogotes of the Viñales valley. The park offers a serene atmosphere with outstanding miradores (viewpoints) and an excellent site for cave exploring.
A handful of restaurants open up from Thursday to Sunday to cater the Cubans who like to spend a day in the open, making the park a slightly less peaceful area. There is La Roca serving pizza and pasta en the ranchón-style El Criollo, where you pay in pesos for various pork and other meat dishes.
While you’re there you might as well visit the small town of Jaruco with its pastel colored houses built along the steeply sloped streets.
Address: just outside Jaruco
Open: Monday to Sunday, 9:00am to 6:00pm
