Bellamar Caves
The Cuevas de Bellamar are 300,000 years old and locally promoted as Cuba's oldest tourist attraction. There are 2500m of caves here, discovered in 1861 by a Chinese land worker.. The caves include a vast 12m stalagmite and other calcium carbonate formations, an underground stream and cave walls covered with glittering crystals.
Address: 5km southeast of Matanzas. You can take bus 16, 17 or 20 east toward Canímar, getting off near Calle 226. From there it's a 30-minute walk uphill to the caves.
Open: 09:00am to 20:pm, with ten diary guided drops.

Birds in Ciénaga of Zapata
Bird watching is relatively easy along several trails throughout the area, some parts well-known internationally, such as: Bermejas, Las Salinas de Brito and the Río Hatiguanico. Of the 368 birds known in Cuba, 70% are present in the Zapata reserve, including three locally endemic species: the Ferminia, the Cabrerito de la Ciénaga and the Gallinuela de Santo Tomás, real treasures of ornitology in Cuba.

El Retablo theatre
El Retablo is a gallery and studio dedicated to marionettes and puppets. During the week you can visit the gallery to admire the costumes, marionettes and puppets made by Cuba's puppet makers. Performances are held every second Saturday of the month..www.househostelcuba.com reccommends you this visit especially if you are travelling with children.

Sauto Theatre
One of Cuba's finest theatres, the 775-seat Teatro Sauto, built in 1863, is famous for its superb acoustics. The lobby is decorated with Carrara marble Greek goddesses and the main-hall ceiling is painted with the muses. Its most curious feature; The floor that can be raised to convert the auditorium into a ballroom. It has hosted many world-renowned performers, including the Italian tenor Enrico Caruso and the famous Soviet ballerina Anna Pavlova. There are over 10 performances a month, generally on Friday.

Josone Park
Row your boat, ride the mini-train or wander at will through the lush tropical vegetation in the gardens, groves and little lagoons with fountains of this public park that dates back to 1940. There are several restaurants and food stands and a swimming pool.

Varahicacos Ecologic Reserve
10 km from the centre of Varadero,a large swath of the eastern end, covering about 30 per cent of the total area of the Peninsula, also known as "El Otro Varadero" (The Other Varadero) is protected. There are plenty of paths which allow you to explore the stunted vegetation in this ecological park. A highlight is the cactus, known as El Patriarca, said to be over 500 years old.
