Statue Che and The Boy
Santa Clara is a shrine to Che Guevara. In front of the Oficina de la Provincia (PCC), you can see a statue Che Guevara with child on his arm. This statue is full of small revolutionary details, for example in the folds of his trouser leg are tiny figures symbolising men climbing a mountain, on the belt buckle there are 38 figures depicting his 38 "compañeros" (partners) who were executed with him in Bolivia. If you look around you can see the bullet holes in the mint green hotel blocks from the battle that was fought here in 1958.
Address: Avenida de la Liberación

Monument to the Taking of the Armored Train/Boxcar Museum
This Boxcar Museum, at the east end side of Independencia just over the river (on a sunny day this is a pleasant stroll from the city center), is not a sophisticated museum. It is a simple memorial to a very significant event in the history of Santa Clara and Cuba. The site features the original bulldozer and carriages complete with bullet holes next to the train line.
If you don't speak or read Spanish, it will help if you read up on the history of the event before you visit. Some of the displays include English translations but many do not.
Address: East end of Independencia, beginning Carretera de Camajuani
Open: Museum: Monday to Saturday, 9:00am to 5:30pm
Entrance: 1.00CUC, +1.00CUC to bring your camera

La Caridad Theatre
The rural but surprisingly active 1885 theater, modeled after the Paris Opera, often features concerts and shows. It once hosted the legendary italian opera singer Enrico Caruso and the Ballet Nacional de Cuba has performed here as well. The building is worth a quick tour to see the impressive frescoes by the hand of Camilo Zalaya and what is probably the oldest theatre machinery of ropes, levers and counterweights still in use.
Address Máximo Gómez
Open: Still under construction, re-opening set for Summer 2014
Entrance: 1.00CUC
