Fishing in Varadero
In the waters near Varadero you can go deep-sea fishing for marlin, sailfish, tuna, snapper and even dolphin. From Marina Chapelín more laid back fishing excursions can be organized, all-inclusive, and complete with open bar.

Boating and Sailing in Matanzas
There are three main marinas on Varadero:
Marina Gaviota Varadero
Marina Dársena Varadero
Marina Chapelín.
The latter two also operate under the umbrella name of Marlin. At any of these, you can charter a sailboat, organize a fishing excursion, or arrange to go scuba diving.
Marina Darsena de Varadero is an authorized port for non-Cuban vessels, and capable of accommodating incoming sailors.

Scuba diving in Matanzas
Matanzas offers different kind of water sports, including the scuba diving.
The most important areas are:
- Playa Coral, with a beautiful coral reef.
- East area in Hicacos Península, with lovely marine beds and remains of shipwrecks.
- Varadero, where you can practice wall dive in Playa Larga and Playa Girón.

A la Batalla de Ideas museum
Fidel Castro opened this museum, dedicated to Elián González, the 6-year old kid that hit the newspapers when fished out of the sea near the Miami coast who after a legal battle finally was reunited with his father in Cuba.

Municipal Museum of Oscar María de Rojas
This museum exhibits art as well as local and natural history, highlights are Pre-Columbian artifacts and a 19th-century hearse.

Girón Beach Museum
It´s located in Ciénaga de Zapata, in Matanzas.
The museum shows the Cuban account of what took place during the Bay of Pigs crises: a great victory for every Cuban. Two rooms inside this simple building contain a series of photos, relics, and a written history detailing the Bay of Pigs invasion and battles (all in Spanish only) and outside there is a display of tanks, heavy artillery, and a downed U.S. plane.
