When to go- Weather |
Cuba has a moderate subtropical climate, with a warmer and drier climate in the eastern part of the country (Santiago de Cuba, Holguín) than in the western part (La Habana, Pinar del Rio). Due to its long and narrow configuration, on an east-west axis, the heat is moderated as it receives the refreshing trade winds and sea breezes. Day and night temperatures differ less in the coastal regions than inland. And the weather tends to be wetter and cooler in the mountains than in the lowlands.
There are two, clearly defined, seasons:
- the dry season, which runs from November through April, with temperatures that go from 20-29ºC.
- the rainy season, from May through October, with an average temperature of 32ºC and high humidity varying between 75% and 95%.
The hurricane season runs from July to November, with the highest number of storms in September, October and November. Even so, not every year Cuba is hit by a serious hurricane.

The best time to visit Cuba is during the dry season. In this period the weather is consistently sunny, with daytime temperatures averaging between 24ºC and 27ºC. However, there may be temperature swings and it can even get a bit chilly at times, especially in the months of January and February. During the rainy season temperatures are slightly higher and more stable, however, there is the risk that your holidays may be affected by a hurricane.
