Gifts
Instead of tipping, bring lots of stuff to give to staff!. Below we provide a list of suggestions:
Memory sticks - as more Cubans get computer access |
Kids tooth brushes - fun stuff like Superman or Sponge Bob |
Hair scrunchies |
Feminine hygiene products |
Tooth paste, mouthwash, floss |
Deodorant, antiperspirants |
Vitamins - both adult and for kids |
Soap, shampoo, conditioner - bring small bottles you can give away, but also bring larger bottles you’ll use while you’re there, then leave it all behind |
Reading glasses, sunglasses |
Toys for kids - crayons, colouring books, yo-yos, anything really! |
Flip flops or Crocs — bring some shoes you’ll use while you’re down there, but leave them behind when you go |
Gardening/utility gloves |
School supplies – pens, pencils, paper pads, etc. |
These seems like everyday little items to us, but to most of the locals in Cuba, these are highly desired items. Also, think of it; it is really nothing for us to spend 50 to 100 USD, EUR etc. buying things to bring to Cuba, but it can mean the world to hard-working Cubans, who simply do not have access to the things we take for granted.
You could also consider bringing medical supplies, individually or, for example, through Not Just Tourists (http://njt-pqt.org/english/view.asp?x=1)
