1. Castillo de Jagua
The only military colonial fortress of Central Cuba is located in Cienfuegos, a 40-minute ferry ride away from town. The fortress, Castillo de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles de Jagua, was built in 1745 and during the English occupation it served as the Spanish military headquarters. It has a working drawbridge (the one and only entrance), a prison and a chapel in the courtyard and the castle itself now houses a small museum providing information on its history and its legends, amongst which its own ghost, the notorious ‘Lady in Blue.’
The passenger ferry runs to the Castillo de Jagua from the Muelle Real (corner Av 46 and Calle 25). It leaves Cienfuegos at 8:00am, 1:00pm and 5:30pm and it returns to town leaving from the castle at 6:30am, 10:00am and 3:00pm. Tickets are 1,00CUC.

2. Palmira
Located 13km north from Cienfuegos city you will find Palmira, a small community known for its deep Afro-Cuban roots and traditions. The first days of December Santaría processions are held and on the 3rd an animals are sacrified.
The Museo Municipal de Palmira is also dedicated to Santería, There are three sections, representing the three principal sects: Cristo, San Roque and Santa Barbara.
The town itself has some peculiar sights, such as human skulls (no explanation is given as to their origin).

3. Estadio 5 de Septiembre
From October to April, the provincial baseball team –Los Elefantes – plays matches here. Tickets prices vary but you should be able to get a good seat for less than 5 cuban pesos. If you don’t go it won’t be because of the ticket prices!
